Recruitment Tools
Getting recruited past high school ball can be tiring, stressful, and confusing. Here at the LAB we are dedicated to help you navigate the chaos that is college athletics. We help provide you with the resources, expectations, and knowledge necessary to get you ready for college sports.
Why do grades matter?
Grades matter…when all things are considered equal. In the recruitment process, when two players with similar skill sets are being evaluated, performance in the classroom is generally used as an indicator of future success. This is not to say grades are the only metric for a coach. However, how a student responds to work, responsibilities, and assessment in an educational setting informs the staff on the type of player they are recruiting. Adversity comes in an all different shapes and forms. How a student responds to something that may not come natural, albeit a topic of study or coursework, is very telling on how hard they are willing to work to achieve something greater.

What it's like to play in college and be a student athlete

Sports in college is a meritocracy. You must earn everything and nothing is guaranteed. Successful student athletes use this as a baseline for everything in life. Similar to a full-time job, you must show up, be prepared, execute in your role, and deliver on results. There is a direct correlation between success for student athletes in a given sport and their future careers.
Other paths to play outside of a four year college
There are many opportunities to play besides a four year program. Two year institutions offer the greatest opportunity to achieve immediate success in a given sport while providing educational and career technical degrees into the workforce. Depending on the sport, semi-professional leagues are also available to continue the development for athletes while earning pay. All situations are circumstantial. Therefore, when determining a path to compete outside of a traditional four year, a plan that encompasses steps to a career beyond playing is highly advisable.
